Today was great! It started with a phone call from a great friend of mine, all the way in Alabama. We had an awesome visit. At ten I was going to attend "the Tuesday Bee" from the quilt guild. I'd been looking forward to it for nearly a month. There were maybe 8 of us ladies there and it was a great time looking at everyone's projects and getting their input. It really reminded me how social quilting is and I know I have been missing that for several years. I did hand applique and really enjoyed myself. The highlight was meeting an expert in Hawaiian quilting who also designs patterns, and best of all, occasionally teaches Hawaiian quilt design, which is what I really want to learn. She doesn't attend the bee, but is in the guild and was just in the shop to shop today, so it was "by chance." After the bee, I stopped at the scrapbook store to pick up a few pieces of paper and signed up for a crop on Saturday night.
I got home and called for the plumber to come and fix my sink! I was planning on going to the Hula class at AMR and needed to leave at 5:05. The plumber finally arrived at 4:50! Thank goodness nothing major was wrong and he was out by 5.
The hula was fun and informative. I was hoping it wouldn't be "how to do the hukilau" like they teach tourists, and thankfully it was taught be a real Kumu Hula. A Kumu is the teacher/leader of a halau (a hula group/troupe) You don't "do the hula or dance the hula" you dance hula. We learned the basic steps and did a sitting down chant/hula, with the sticks you whack together. Of course I have forgotten all the Hawaiian terms, however, the chant is still running through my mind and probably will be all night when I'm trying to sleep! The best news is that they want to start an ongoing group of beginners, all ages. My friend Sandra and I signed up w/o a moment of hesitation.
The only drawback to the day was that I didn't get to a store to buy the Princess Ka'iulani movie which was out on DVD today. Maybe later.
The scrapbooking isn't going great. I keep hitting stumbling blocks and can't seem to "get into the groove." I know I need to spend the time, and I've been too distracted. I have only finished two 12x12 pages. That is one of the reasons I signed up for the crop. I plan to really work on it tomorrow.
I'm doing okay w/o Dale, though I miss him. I had a slight drama yesterday with the sink leaking and today there was a lizard on the trash can. It didn't want to get off the trash can and just kept running around it as I kicked the can. I knew if I grabbed the handle and started pushing the trash can to the street, the lizard would either run up my arm or else drop its tail or something. ((shudder)) I KNOW that there is more than likely another one with the recycling bin, so that may not get taken out tomorrow. It can wait until Dale gets home!
Aloha!
